Carlos Castillo
About
Hello, I'm Carlos Castillo / Mr. Castle, and I am a conceptual sculptor based in the UK. My practice, which I term Primitive Pop, is dedicated to exploring the intersection of industrial logic and raw, visceral form. I create unique, sculptural objects that challenge memory, re-interpret pop culture, and embody the stark, compelling beauty of the Brutalist aesthetic.

My journey into sculpture is driven by a unique dual perspective. By day, I am a Software Engineer, deeply immersed in the world of systems, code, and deconstructionist problem-solving. This analytical lens fundamentally shapes my art. Where engineering seeks elegant solutions, my sculpting seeks the raw structure underneath.
I apply this reverse logic to familiar subjects—from the whimsical to the forgotten—stripping away their polished facade to expose the primitive geometry and essential form beneath. My work is not just about making; it's about breaking down the complex and rebuilding it using the raw, honest language of clay.
My primary medium is air-dry clay, which I favour for its ability to convey a sense of density, gravity, and rough texture. I utilize armature, intense sanding, and calculated weathering effects to achieve surfaces that appear aged, concrete-like, and tactile—a deliberate homage to Brutalist architecture and ancient artifacts.
Every piece is a unique, one-of-a-kind original designed to spark curiosity and conversation in a contemporary space. I invite you to explore my available works and connect with the structural, conceptual world I build.
