Lithic Relic: Atlantic Puffin is a striking original sculpture by Carlos Castillo (Mr. Castle) that explores the visual interplay between rugged coastal geology and vibrant, living wildlife.
Created as part of the Digital Archaeology series, the piece depicts an Atlantic puffin sheltered within a craggy, cavernous rock alcove. The surrounding rock face mimics raw basaltic coastal formations, featuring deep fissured crevices, earthy mineral washes, and subtle verdigris patinas carved directly into the heavy matrix.
Emerging from the deep shadows of its stone nook, the puffin displays meticulously dry-brushed plumage alongside a brilliant, multi-hued beak. Saturated crimson, ochre, and bright yellow accents cut sharply through the surrounding stone, locked in place under a protective gloss varnish that enhances the depth of both feather and rock.
